Mark Cotton was born in St Albans in Hertfordshire, the son of a vicar and a teacher, and moved to Chislehurst in Kent as a child. Educated at Dulwich College, Mark studied Architecture at Westminster University as a full time student, graduating with an honours degree.
After leaving Westminster, Mark gained employment as an Architectural Assistant at Curtis Taunton Partnership in Epping where he learnt the basics of his profession. During this time Mark grew convinced that the key to good architecture was having a healthy relationship with his clients and providing a trustworthy professional service based upon mutual understanding and respect.
In 1997 Mark returned to education as a part time student at Greenwich University to study for his Diploma in Architecture, graduating in 2001.
In 1999 Mark left Curtis Taunton to take up the position of Architectural Assistant at Stevenage Borough Council where his first project was the refurbishment of Stevenage Swimming Pool.
In 2002 Mark returned to Greenwich University to complete his Post Graduate Certificate in Professional Architectural Practice, graduating top of his year, and was subsequently accepted to the register of Architects and promoted by Stevenage to Senior Architect.
During his time at Stevenage Mark was responsible for all the architectural projects carried out by Stevenage's in house architects department, managing a staff of four working on a wide range of projects. Mark was also personally responsible for a Lottery funded community centre extension and a sustainable sports pavilion.
Mark Left Stevenage in 2005 to establish architecture & design services ltd. Mark is married to Jackie and they have two children, James and Isobel. Mark oversees all the projects undertaken by architecture & design services ltd. and places particular emphasis upon the clients requirements, design and quality.
