Hendon Leisure Centre

In late 2005 architecture & design services and Borras Construction Ltd were invited to enter into a four year partnering agreement with Greenwich Leisure Ltd. Greenwich Leisure Ltd run a number of Local Authority leisure facilities across the country and were looking to expend a capital budget on refurbishing selected facilities with design and build partners.

Hendon Leisure Centre was the first of these partnering projects to go on site and, with a budget of £250,000 and a short programme period, presented the design team with a number of challenges.

The project consisted of the remodelling of the existing ground floor staff areas and climbing room to provide members lounge facilities, an improved climbing experience and a member's only gymnasium. On the first floor an existing multi purpose room was reconfigured to provide additional gymnasium facilities which were linked to the facilities on the ground floor.

The project was completed on budget and within the contracted timescales and the client continues to be happy with the quality of design and the overall effect.

As part of this commission, architecture & design services carried out a measured survey, an accessibility assessment and produced accessibility statements and detailed design drawings to satisfy the requirements of the Building Regulations.
